How do I turn off Defender/Windows Security? Win 10

I need to turn off my Defender so that I can run System Restore.

According to all of the replies in Bing, this is what I should do:

To turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off, select the Windows logo Start button, and then select Settings / Gear-shaped Settings icon  > Update & Security > Firewall & network protection. Choose a network profile, and then under Windows Defender Firewall, switch the setting to On or Off

but I haven't got an On/Off setting - and mine says Windows Security, not Defender.

When I previously tried to turn it off, I got an alert exclamation mark against 'App & browser control'. Digging down, I saw the following:

In App & browser control my settings are Check apps & files (Block/Warn/Off) - mine is set to Warn
In Smart Screen for MS Edge: (Block/Warn/Off) - mine is set to Warn
and in SmartScreen for Microsoft Store apps, (Warn/Off) - mine is set to Warn

Where am I going wrong, please?

PS If my Topic is wrong, would an Administrator please change it? TIA

Hi Taffy

A quick way to bypass Defender to perform a System Restore:

Press the Shift Key and click Restart

Your PC will boot into the Windows Recovery Environment

Go to Advanced Option - Troubleshoot - System Restore

Check to see if you have a restore point you can go back to

Hello Dave. I'm having a bad hair day, what with running dos commands and ploughing through pages of results! Where should I be when I press the Shift Key>Restart?

Hi Taffy087

When you press Shift + Restart, your PC should boot into the Windows Recovery Environment - a light blue screen with a couple o buttons on that - do you see an 'Advanced Options' button?

I'm still struggling Dave. When I press my Start button, I have three options under Power: Sleep, Shutdown & Restart. But nothing happens when I press Shift i.e. there's no Restart option showing.

(Possibly still struggling from watching Superbowl LIII)

Hi Taffy, no problem . . .

On your Start Menu, click the Power Button, which will show Sleep, Shutdown & Restart

Then press your Shift key and at the same time click the 'Restart' button

that worked - thank you Dave. I now have no alert exclamation marks against 'App & browser control' or any of the others.  But there's nothing in my Settings that show that Defender my Windows Security has been turned off. So will System Restore still work?
