How do I Stop the Skype notification icon on the startup window

How do I Stop the Skype notification icon on the startup window.
Every time I see the Icon I open Skype once windows has started and get some stupid irrelevant message from Skype that could have waited until I open Skype myself.

The message has never been a critical or important message from Skype.

Thanks.

Hi Stew,

Navigate to here:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Or click start and type "shell:startup" - See if Skype is there - remove it if so

Then here:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp

Or click start and type "shell:common startup" - See if Skype is there - remove it if so

Right click on the taskbar, and open Task Manager - click more details, then click the startup tab. See if your application is there. Disable it if it’s enabled.

Restart, and let me know if that message pops up!

Hi Charlie.

In the first option there was no Skype there.

In the second option Skype was not there, but I backed up one directory as I could see a Skype folder above the StartUp folder.

I renamed the Skype folder to Skype Temp Removal so it won't find it.

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Skype Temp Removal

Under Task Manager there was no Skype in the Startup Item List.

Will have to restart the computer a few times as the Icon is only there when Skype has left a product notification message.

Will give you feed back in a few weeks if it happens again.

What would happen if I totally deleted the Skype Folder that I saw above the StartUp folder?

Thanks

Skype may not work correctly, or may not be able to locate things once the app is launched...

Just to verify, you still use skype, you just don’t want that pop up message right? We could just rip it out if you don’t use.

I’ll be here, let me know if that message persists!

I use Skype very infrequently which make the Icon on the start up menu even more frustrating having to go and check in case I have an important message from a friend and it is just a Skype notification.

Thanks.

This is what Skype sees as so important as to show me and Icon on the start up menu.

Ok, and we don't want to turn off all notifications on the lock screen right?

Settings - System - Notifications - We can turn off "Show notifications on the lock screen" if you wanted that.

Scroll down on this page to "Get notifications from these senders" and see if Skype is on this list. You can toggle it to off, or click on it, and turn off specific notification options.

Let me know if this works!

The Skype Notification Button was on and I turned it of.

The only thing that worries me now is if a contact sends me a real message I won't get a notification for that and I actually would like a notification if I get a real message from a contact. (I just don't want stupid notifications from Skype itself.)

Regards Stew

I completely understand, I'm trying to find just that "lock screen" message, but I think it's an all or nothing shot...

That being said, could you reach out to your friend and have them send a test message?
