Dear James Clure

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand that you want to set Windows Media Player as the default player when playing DVDs. What is the file format of the DVD you are playing? When setting the default format, we don't have a way to set the default playback format by the source of the file, we can only set the default playback format by the type of the file.

Usually, there are two ways to set default apps, you can try the following two ways. Please try these two generic methods first.

1、Right-click on your DVD file and select Open Method. Select the app you need in the open method and tick “Always use this app to open *** files”.

2、In Settings - Applications - Default applications - "Set default values for file types or link types", enter “The file formats in your DVDs”. Click on "Select Default Application" at the bottom.

If you have a third-party anti-virus software, uninstall the third-party anti-virus software first.

If the problem is still not solved by the above steps, you can share the recent progress with me in the reply. I will work with you to try other possible solutions to resolve the problem.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, and we look forward to your reply.
