How do I remove a folder/files from my back-up/synced one drive?

I got a new laptop not too long ago and synced all necessary files from my previous laptop to the new one.

Now I started downloading custom content and mods for the sims 4 on my laptop. Only issue is one drive has started to sync and back-up ALL of the files which of course immediately filled my one drive storage. I don’t want my mods to be synced, there is no need for that. Everywhere i check it says I have to delete the file (documents file) from my one drive, but i’m scared that if I do that the documents folder and everything I downloaded will be deleted from my (current) laptop?

Could someone help? I just want to free up space on my one drive for actual important things, not game add-ons.

Dear Shar2n,

Thanks for visiting Microsoft Community.  I am happy to help you.

I understand that after you turned on the OneDrive sync feature, your laptop started syncing game content from The Sims 4, which caused your OneDrive storage space to fill up quickly. Since OneDrive storage space is limited, game files may take up a lot of storage resources, affecting the synchronization and storage of your other files.

Based on your description, in order to avoid losing important game data and solve the current storage space shortage problem, we recommend that you first copy the game data of The Sims 4 to a local storage device (such as the laptop's hard drive or other external storage device). In this way, even if you delete the related files in OneDrive, your game data will be properly preserved.

In addition, you can consider deleting files and data that you no longer need in OneDrive to free up storage space. This will not only help restore the normal use of OneDrive, but also prevent other files from being unable to sync due to insufficient space. To avoid similar problems in the future, we recommend that you store game saves and other large files in folders outside of OneDrive so that they will not affect OneDrive synchronization.

If you need more help on how to manage OneDrive storage space or how to transfer files from OneDrive to local, please feel free to let me know. We will do our best to provide you with further guidance and solutions.

Hopefully I can give you some information you can refer to.

Best regards
