How do I reinstall the Windows Search Service?

About a week ago, I started seeing a message in windows search saying that search indexing was turned off. I clicked turn indexing back on, and it took me to Indexing Options, where there were no listed directories and the modify and pause buttons were grayed out. I ran the search and indexing troubleshooter, and it told me that the windows search service was not running. I clicked the button that said "Try these repairs as an administrator." It went through the troubleshooter again, and tried to start the windows search service, but it said that it couldn't. When I looked in services.msc for windows search, it wasn't there. I know that it can be labeled as WSearch, that also was not listed. I've tried a system restore, manually adding the service through PowerShell (that gave me a 1053 error when I tried starting it), changing file permissions, but none of it worked. I recently uninstalled and reinstalled Rectify11, if that helps. I might have also updated windows, I can't quite remember.

Hi , scriptJS

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

What version of Windows 10 do you have 21h2 or 22h2?

Check if the Service is in the registry if the service is WSearch.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search

I'm running windows 11 22h2.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search does not exist in the registry on my computer.

Hi , scriptJS

In this case, it is recommended to install using the iso method to see if you can reinstall the Windows Search service.

https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2156295

Select Download tool now, and select Run. You need to be an administrator to run this tool.

If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.

On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.

The application will automatically identify the correct version of windows 11 for your system, from Next.

Select which media you want to use ISO file. Save an ISO file to your PC

Wait for the application to perform the iso download and after finishing the download it will close automatically.
After downloading, find the Windows 11 ISO file on your PC, right-click and select “Mount”. If the option is not available, select “Open With” and “Windows Explorer”

1. Run the “Setup” application, present inside the Windows 11 ISO, to start the installation on the PC.

2. With the ISO files folder open, click on the “Setup” executable to continue installing Windows 11.

3. After that, a Get Important Updates window will appear along with the two options Select: Not now

4. Uncheck the box I want to help improve your Windows installation to skip sending unknown data to Microsoft about the installation process Next

5. After that, a License Terms window will pop up, here you have to click on the Accept button.

6.Now another “Choose what to keep” window or “Ready to install” window will pop up.
At this point, you need to change some settings. Click the “Change what to keep” link

7. You can now see the “Choose what to keep” window along with the three options given below:
Select Keep My files and Programs.

Then click on the Next button.
Finally, the Ready to Install window will appear along with the Install button.

In this step, you have to click on the Install button to start reinstalling Windows 11. During this process, your computer or laptop may restart sometimes.

And just wait for the clean and fully automatic installation procedure.

I tried reinstalling with upgrade assistant (which didn't work), but I didn't think about using an iso instead.

This won't remove and app or settings data, right?

Hi , scriptJS

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

You have to keep the option to keep the files and programs during the installation before starting the reinstallation.

To not delete the files and programs.
