How do I locate my Contacts file, Windows 10

Hi,

I've been using Microsoft Mail. I have hundreds of contacts in the People app. I now want to close down Mail and use Outlook, and import all those contacts into Outlook.

I know how the Import/Export wizard for Outlook works. I just can't find the file to import. That is, the file in which my People contacts are stored. The old "Contacts" folder is at C:\Users\*username*\Contacts. This is an empty folder on my computer, so obviously is of no use.

Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks!

Thanks again, Frederik. That's a useful site; some things I can use there, for sure. And yes, I do have a file (but only 88KB).

As I mentioned before, your contact details are held in this file:

C:\Users\FLong\AppData\Local\Comms\UnistoreDB\store.vol

I confirmed this by doing some further research. At least the contact names & E-Mail addresses are stored in unencrypted text, which means that the data could be extracted and massaged for import into Outlook. The process would not be trivial. Here is what's required:

  1. Boot the machine into repair mode.
  2. Use console commands to find & copy the file to an external USB disk
  3. Create & run a script file to generate a suitably formatted csv file
  4. Import the csv file into Outlook
