How do I fix Windows Search Highlights? They do not show

There are no options to customize search in taskbar settings.

Things I have tried:

  1. Installed all Windows Updates

  2. Restarted Search Service

  3. Search highlights shows enabled in settings but is grayed out

  4. enabling highlights in local group policy editor

  5. created new user profile

  6. sfc scannow

Please check if you somehow disabled Search the Web with Bing in Windows Search, it will also disable Search Highlights. I recommend enabling it then see if this fixes the issue.

Thank you for updating me with that information. I apologize that this did not resolve the issue.

What is your current Windows operating system and version? Press Windows key+R to open Run then type: winver

Please check and try Shawn Brink's tutorial guide in the link below on How to Enable or Disable Search Highlights in Windows 11. Please try Option 2 and 4 using a Reg file to turn it on if it helps.

Hello Alex_820,

If the issue still persists, Please try performing an In-place Upgrade. Performing this can repair broken operating system files while your personal files, settings and installed applications will not be removed.

**Few things to check on the PC

Unplug all external peripherals except for the Mouse, Keyboard, and LAN cable before starting
Disable or uninstall any 3rd party Anti-Virus program to prevent it from interfering with the upgrade
