How do I disable tablet mode or disable tablet mode sensor or use real keyboard in tablet mode?

I have a Lenovo Flex 5-1470 with Windows 11 and want to use it with an external monitor "in tablet mode". When it is in tablet mode the keyboard and trackpad are disabled. From what I have read and tried I understand that enabling the keyboard and trackpad is not possible for some reason when in tablet mode. I have found no help from Lenovo or Microsoft (sounds like I'm not alone) who refuse to acknowledge the problem or provide an actual solution and I am about to rip my screen off.

Is there a way to disable tablet mode permanently?

Is there a way to enable the keyboard and trackpad in tablet mode?

Is there a way to disable the sensor for tablet mode?

Would being in Windows help to 10 solve this problem?

Is there any way to solve this problem, and why not?

Thank you and apologies for the frustration :)

Hello Andy L_769 and welcome to the Microsoft Community!

Based on your feedback, you want to disable Tablet Mode!

I'd like to check with you to see what brand of external monitor you are using for Tablet Mode.

What brand of monitor is your external monitor for "Tablet Mode"?

Depending on the brand, the method is different

You can try the following, you can try it first to see if it can help you

Press Windows key + K on your PC, select the corresponding tablet in the device list, and follow the interface prompts to connect.

After successful connection, you can choose different display modes on PC:

Select "Duplicate", the tablet will be displayed in the same way as the PC's main screen.

Select "Extended", the tablet will become the extended screen of PC (on the right side by default).

By selecting "Second Screen Only", only the tablet is displayed. When disconnected, swipe up from the bottom of the tablet screen to go back to the home page, go to "Settings" > "More Connections" > "Wireless Display" to turn off the feature. In the wireless display state, you can only use the keyboard and mouse on the PC side to operate, and the tablet only serves as a monitor.

I hope the above information is helpful.

I appreciate the response. The brand is RCA and I am using an HDMI connection. I want to disable the tablet mode on my laptop so that I can use it to control the external monitor while it is folded. Since I am not using a wireless display, this did not work.

    Thank you for your reply.

    I have understood your need

You can try the following to see if you can exit tablet mode

You can click on the windows key and search for the registry editor.

Go to it and change the value of ConvertibleSlateMode in \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\PriorityControl to 1.

Disclaimer: Modifying the registry or workgroups is usually geared towards advanced users, administrators and IT professionals, and it can help fix some problems, however, improper registry modifications can cause serious problems. Therefore, please make sure to follow the steps below strictly. For further protection, make a backup of the registry before modifying it. For more information on how to backup and restore the registry refer to the:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-to-back-up-and-restore-the-registry-in-windows-855140ad-e318-2a13-2829-d428a2ab0692

Then check to see if you can exit tablet mode

If that doesn't work I'll help you find another way to do it.
