1. The free upgrade offer from Microsoft for 10 has ended.

2. Microsoft no longer sells Windows 10.

3. Windows 11 does not come for free.

4. Devices older than 18 months prior to release of Windows 11 are not suitable for 11.

5. I suggest that you look at buying a cheap new computer.

Wow, that seems to say what the website already says. Thanks for the great info. I am not going to throw away a perfectly good piece of hardware because the powers at be want me to buy another pc every 5 years. I'm tired of the scam. I think I can use my pc for another year or 2. It is Microsoft that is forcing the issue prematurely. I should have access to the software to run my pc. None of this makes sense. Why stop the availability of a free upgrade in the first place? Why treat your customers like this. Does not make me want to repeat buy.

1. We don't work for Microsoft.

2. We are computer users, just like you are..

3. Microsoft never looks at these Windows 8.1 forums.

4. Companies do not make $$$ to keep going and pay their shareholders a dividend by giving away free software for years.

5. If you decide to keep using it, then do so.

Make sure you have a good Antivirus.

I am posting this reply from a 8.1 machine.

They released windows 8 and then in couple of years released 10, then said to upgrade for free because why in the first place? Then why turn around and take away the option to do so. Then take away the ability to do so at all when windows 10 is still being supported. I still never got the answer how to know if my computer can run windows 10. Instead I got information that I already read about.

1. They released Windows 8.

2. Then they released Windows 8.1.

3. Then they offered a free upgrade form Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

Then they included Windows 8 as an afterthought.

4. Officially, the free upgrade to 10 ended in 2016.

Microsoft has finally closed the loophole that they allowed for years.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

There is no use telling you if your computer can run Windows 10, or not; as Microsoft no longer sells it and Support for 10 ends next year anyway.

If you really need to know if your computer would have run 10, ask your Computer Manufacturer that Question as they were always the ones who made that decision as to whether to supply Windows 10 Drivers for that specific model number.

It is Microsoft that is forcing the issue prematurely.

Oh no, my friend. Hackers all over the world are forcing Microsoft's hand.

Incessant and increasingly sophisticated attacks are a huge menace to software developers. There is a limit to how many security updates Microsoft can make to a given version of Windows before they have to throw in the towel and come up with a new design, resulting in a new version of Windows. And it has gotten worse:

To make Windows 11 safe enough to use, Microsoft and its hardware partners (principally Intel and AMD) had to introduce such severe hardware and software restrictions that millions of otherwise perfectly capable computers cannot run Windows 11!

Preparation is the nemesis of failure.

Windows 11 computers still get hacked, no matter what anyone tells you.

Microsoft brings out new operating systems to make money,, but supposedly to improve performance. and security.

I am on a non-supported 8.1 operating system posting to you in the Windows 8.1 forums.

I also have earlier Windows machines and Windows 10 and Windows 11 machines.

I can't make a list of what to do to make 8.1 safe to use.

It is your own personal knowledge of what to do to use an operating system safely.
