How can I transfer my Windows 10 Pro License from my old Surface Pro 5 to my Surface Pro 8 that only has the Home edition of windows

My old Surface Pro 5 has Windows Pro. In fact I recently upgraded it to Windows 11 Pro. My newer Surface Pro 8 has Window 11 but the only home edition. Ideally I would like the Pro edition on my SP8 and the home edition on my SP5. Is there a way of doing this?

Hello, this is Emily.

On the old Surface, how did you originally obtain the Pro license, did it come with the device or you purchased the license?

If it came with the device, you cannot transfer it from one device to another.

If you purchased that license separately, then you can transfer it:

1. On the Surface that has the Pro edition, launch Command Prompt in admin mode, run these commands:

slmgr.vbs /upk
slmgr.vbs /cpky

On the Surface that has Home edition, you need to go to Settings > System> Activation, click on Change product key, to enter the product key so it can upgrade to pro and activate.

2. If you don't have the actual product key, then you can install app like ShowKeyPlus from the store app to obtain the key, then use the above method to transfer.
