How can I revert to the old MS Paint?

I do not need any of the layers features, and when I cut, it totally removing the background instead of just painting it white is really messing me up. I just want to revert to the old version. Or can someone at least help me make it so when I cut, it makes it white.

Hi Jacob, hope you're doing well. I’m Ian, and I’m happy to help you today.

Unfortunately, revert to old MS Paint is quite not possible. There are some ways to revert to it but you need to manually modify your registry keys to restore the classic MS Paint app in 11. It might harm your device in this case.

There is a replica of the old MS Paint, which is called Classic Paint. You can try to search and download it.

This is a user-to-user support forum and I am a fellow user.
I hope this helps, but please let me know if you need anything else.

Personally I do not like the new version of microsoft paint. I've used it for years and could to everything I needed it for. Now, every time I try to draw something and select an option, I get surprised and unable to do what I want. I gave up!

This new version of MS paint is horrible. Copy and past no longer works well - there are artifacts and sometimes I have to just copy past ten times before finally the artifact disappears. Then when saving, it adds artifacts again and the final image looks totally different from how it looked on screen. I used to use MS paint all the time for finishing graphs and figures in my papers. Not it's totally useless. And I find out it's been changed right before a paper deadline so now I need to take time to find a new software package to work with. Why would MS just upgrade a perfectly functional program like this? Why not make a new program and leave MS paint simple for those of us who found it useful? Or, at the very least, DEBUG your program! Does no one at MS use copy-paste functionality??

I was forced to buy a new Windows 11 because my old Windows 10 laptop's harddrive was about to die.

All the previous simple operations on 10 are now so complex that a 93 year old user with limited eyesight cannot do all the searches that it now takes to try to try to find a way that was easy on 10 but nearly impossible on 11.

The only improvement 11 is over my old 10 is that it's faster.

I've used Windows for 25 years and 11 is **** - mostly just to make it look different.

There needs to be a way to revert to 10's operation.

Microsoft used to user friendly. Now it's horrible... I mean absolutely HORRIBLE for small business. We are thinking about going to apple. The thing is, when everything is working fine, you get an "update", then NOTHING works. You also get mornings where all your apps are erased. I think a bunch of high school students are running MS.

Found a web site that gave instructions for downloading Windows 10 Paint and it works fine. Hurray!!

But now only a few dozen more changes needed to make Win 11 "workable".

Dear Microsoft,

I've used MS Paint with one layer & a white background for over 30 years. It was simple & it worked magnificently.

I used Paint to perform many functions, from creating birthday cards to developing ideas for new software. The new features are overkill & disruptive to getting things done. I spend more time filling in blank spaces left by transparency than I do creating the ideas.

Microsoft, if you're not willing to remove the new features - please consider allowing us to turn them off or install the old version.

Here are some suggestions.

1. Add a toggle switch in the top right (e.g. new outlook) "new paint" allowing users to go back to the way we've been using paint for over 30 years.

Image

2. Add options under "view" to disable transparency & layers.

Image

3. Add the old Microsoft Paint as download in MS Store, which if installed allows you to run either version.

Thanks,

Tyler
