If you right click on your taskbar and click Taskbar settings, you will see Copilot (preview). Simply slide the slider to OFF and Copilot will no longer appear on your taskbar. You will also see Widgets, make sure that is slid to the ON position and that will show you your news and interests and is fully customizable...

Thank you for your response. Click the Windows Key and R to open the Run Dialog and enter regedit. On the left hand side, click the carrot to the left side to expand the folders you see like this...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER >
Software >
Microsoft >
Windows >
Shell >
Copilot >
Click on and select BingChat
On the right hand side, double click IsUserEligible and change the Value data to 1.
Click OK and close the Registry Editor.

Then go to Taskbar Settings. Disable and Enable Copilot.

It doesn't seem that you have Copilot installed. Check the Microsoft Store to see if Copilot is available and install it, and then you can disable that icon from your search bar.

What is this then?

And how do I get rid of it and have the daily highlights returned?

Upon further review, that is an icon that changes daily. It has nothing to do with any installed programs. If you want to turn it off, on Windows 11, open the Settings App. From there select Privacy & Security, then Search Permissions. Under the More Settings section will be a toggle for Show Search Highlights, simply toggle that off.

This does not work. I still have the co-pilot preview icon, and the setting is switched to off. So moving the switch to off does NOT remove the icon from the tray
