host process for windows services has stopped working

I am using windows vista sp2, my problem started since 3weeks, I have 3problems, may be inter-related. The problems are: (1) Very often my userprofile could not be loaded (2) I could not update my vista since 1 month (3) very often the error message comes and disconnect the internet, error: windows host process stopped working"  I removed all my antivirus software and firewall..

First thing to try is a System Restore to before the problem:

Do System Restore in Safe Mode, if unable to do it in Normal Mode.

Try tapping F8 at startup, and from the list of startup selections, select Safe Mode by using UP Arrow Key to go there > then hit Enter.

Try a System Restore once there, to pick a Restore Point before your problem..

Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > pick a different time > Next > etc

If the above does not fix the problem, follow these steps to improve performance and resolve the issue:

Go to your Laptop/Computer Manufacturer's website > Drivers and Downloads Section > Key in your Model number > Look for latest Vista Drivers for it > Download/install them.

The More Options tab is available when you choose to clean files from all users on the computer. This tab includes two additional ways to free even more disk space:

Programs and Features: Uninstall unwanted Programs.

System restore and Shadow Copies: Delete all but the most recent Restore Point

  Above is what you should do as part of normal Computer maintenance.

Besides using an anti-virus, also scan for Malware/spyware:

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Malwarebytes is as the name says, a Malware Remover!

Download the Free Version from the link above.

Download, install, update and scan once a fortnight..

How to use Malwarebytes after it is installed and Updated:

1. Open Malwarebytes > Click on the Update Tab  across the top> get the latest updates.

2. On the Scanner tab, make sure thePerform full scan option is selected and then click on theScan button to start scanning your computer

3. MBAM will now start scanning your computer for malware. This process can take quite a while.

4. When the scan is finished a message box will appear

5. You should click on the OK button to close the message box and continue with the Malwareremoval process.

6
. You will now be back at the main Scanner screen. At this point you should click on theShow Results button.

7. A screen displaying all the malware that the program found will be shown

8. You should now click on the Remove Selected button to remove all the listed malware. MBAM will now delete all of the files and registry keys and add them to the programs quarantine. When removing the files, MBAM may require a reboot in order to remove some of them. If it displays a message stating that it needs to reboot, please allow it to do so. Once your computer has rebooted, and you are logged in, please continue with the rest of the steps.

9. When MBAM has finished removing the malware, it will open the scan log and display it in Notepad. Review the log as desired, and then close the Notepad window.

10. You can now exit the MBAM program.

Run the Vista System File Checker Tool:

http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2231/vista_run_system_file_checker/

1. Open a Command Window in Administrator mode:

* clickStart
* click All Programs, thenAccessories
* right click on the Command Prompt option,
* on the drop down menu which appears, click on the Run as Administratoroption.

* If you haven’t disabled User Account Control (and you shouldn’t!) you will be asked for authorisation. Click the Continue button if you are the administrator or insert the administrator password.

2. Start the System File Checker

* In the Command Prompt window, type:sfc /scannow,
* press Enter.
* You’ll see “the system scan will begin”.

The scan may take some time and windows will repair/replace any corrupt or missing files. You will be asked to insert your Vista DVD if it’s needed.

Close the Command Prompt Window when the job is finished.

One caveat: you need a Windows DVD to enable SFC to make more than minor repairs.

Thanks for your detailed reply. I am sorry that I didnt provide details of my problems.. I am using vista sp2 32 bits operating system. I tried the measures you mentioned in the reply. Unfortunately they didnt work for me. When I tried to update the error came up. ("An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer. Error(s) found: Code 80072EFE Windows update encountered an unknown error."). The last update was on 25 May 2010. When I tried to system restore, window showed me that there is no restore points set, and I have to set a new one. As the system is now in trouble I didnt set new restore point. Very often, my user profile is not logged in. I regeditted and renamed .bak entry. I worked for some time. I downloaded window fixit, malware bytes, spybot, etc.. all found some errors and fixed. Still the update problem exists and not able to goto microsoft update sites. Another error is "host process for windows stopped" error..causing system delay and internet connection disconnect until I restart the system. In safe mode I tried to do system restore, but in vain as it showed me that I have to make new restore point. I unistalled my McAfee, disabled windows firewall, but not useful. When I tried to sfc /scannow in admin dos prompt, it windows didnt respond and gave no result. As you recommended, I googled Toshiba drivers, I found some. But I dont which driver specifically to be downloaded and updated. Lan driver ? or what ? Please advise. All these troubles started 1 month ago. What I have made is that I setup an ad-hoc connection for using internet in my mobile which also didnt work properly..

Waiting for your valuable advice..

1. I gave you the Windows Update Forum link to post your Windows Update questions in.

Now that you have given an error code, if the info supplied below about it does not work, REPOST in the correct Windows Update Forum.

You may encounter temporary connection-related errors when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates.

Code 80072EFE is included there.

2. I advised you to go to your Manufacturer's website for Drivers, not Google Toshiba Drivers.

As you now say Toshiba, contact Toshiba about what Drivers are required for your Model

The other poster is either not sure what Forums he is posting in and/or did not read your question properly.

They have given you mostly Windows 7 info.

You state that you are using VISTA and these are VISTA Forums.

Follow my advice I have given you for the Vista Operating System.

Cheers.
