High data usage from "system" in usage details

So this thing in my data usage called "system" used over 500gbs and is killing my internet data cap

any ideas? I've tried most of everything I can think of.

I did that it managed to use 20 GB's today I had screenshotted earlier came back and compared, it went up.

open Start > Settings > Privacy > Background apps and disable all.

Open Start, type: problem reports
Hit Enter

Delete any failed or pending reports.

I suspect there are a couple of systemic issues that lead to your problem:
* all of the "telemetry" built in to Win10 to send back 'usage' information to MS.
* MS defaults to pushing a lot more advertising to Windows
* OneDrive
* Cortana - every search on your computer includes a internet search
* MS defualts to using your internet as an Windows Update file sharing service!

Note: MS is infamous for resetting customizations back to "default" during updates. That means you have to check periodically to make sure they haven't been "improved" by MS update. Especially after the big semi-annual new feature "updates". To help with this periodic checking, it is a good idea to write down the changes you make, as you make them. Include instructions on how to find the settings (they can be tricky to remember when you only look at them every few months). I use a simple convention to document the path to commands, ie
Settings > Network & Internet > WiFi > Random Hardware Addresses > turn it on
Call it a "Change Log"
