Hey, I got another question (Minecraft)

So, mc java has lots of lag on my laptop, and I understand that an intel celeron n2840 is not much for mc to run on, but my 8gb of ram is.

but, I have a theory that some of the issues is all the texture detail.

So I'm making a texture pack that requires less detail, not changing pixel sizes, but making more thinks like one/two colors instead of 1-10 different colores every texture, I'm hoping this would put less stress on the cpu of my low budget laptop. and Increase the fps a little.

Hi Sandy. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator, here to help you.

You're right that a Celeron is a weak processor. I'd observe how much RAM is being used vs. CPU as it may be too weak a processor to even use all the RAM.

1) What can make up for it some is the quality of the install. What we have found is that in Windows 10 what matters most is the quality of the underlying install, the same reason enthusiasts have never run Factory or Upgrade installs because they know there would be endless issues.

For example there have been zero return problems by those who follow the gold standard Clean Install here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.... It is better and faster than any previous version of Windows, and a better install than any amount of money could buy. So when you get time I'd study over that to see if it's something I can help you do.

2) The Display driver is so important here that merely updating it is sometimes not enough. So let's try everything possible to get it working correctly:

First make sure you have updated the Display driver from the PC or Display adapter maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS/UEFI firmware (very important), network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

If this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...
or the Nvidia Update utility here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...
or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.

Adjust the screen resolution until it fits and looks best at Settings > System > Display.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you'll wait to rate whether my post resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Thanks greg, I'll take a look at all these, but question. What would I do if my CPU is manufacturer Customized? Like, it is a version of similar CPUs but it has some parts changed/removed by the manufacturer.

I don't know if mine is, so how would I check?

I seriously doubt the Celeron is customized by the PC maker, never heard of that. Sometimes the drivers are but usually not for the CPU.

You can run CPU-ID to get the specs on the processor and compare them to a stock Celeron: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-...

OK, I ran the intel upgrade & support and it said one of my drivers needs an update, so, I'm working on downloading the drivers right now.

ok, I ran the install and it said that my driver is custom. So I'm going to the manufacturers website to see if they have any drivers available.

What is the driver and the PC make/model? If it's the CPU then that is in the chipset.

Often the warning that the driver is customized by manufacturer is just a standard message for OEM PC's so you can try the Intel driver to see how it performs anyway.

Ok, the laptop is Toshiba Satellite C55-b5100. I've learned that the cpu is soldered in, so If I want to get a better cpu, then I'd have to slap in a new motherboard. Or buy a EGpu, but those cost a lot, they also make my laptop less portable.

but thanks for responding, I've not responded earlier cause I slapped in a 8gb ram chip not too long ago, and decided that's the closest I'm gonna get till I get a new laptop.

There are chipset, BIOS and all other drivers from the Toshiba Downloads page here:
https://support.dynabook.com/support/modelHome?...

Make sure you've got the drivers for the exact build by finding and putting in the Serial Number using the link under the top box where you'll put the Serial in.

Then Update all the drivers including BIOS version if needed.
