Your Hotmail account will serve as your Microsoft account when you add it to your Windows 10. This will give you access to apps and game from the Windows Store and let's you see your settings and other stuff across multiple Windows 10 devices.

To get started, you need to go to Settings > Accounts > Email & app accounts. Under Accounts use by other apps, select Add a Microsoft account. Follow the prompts to add your Microsoft account and you also need to verify your identity by entering a confirmation code.

Since you're also having issues with Windows Hello, we'd like to clarify the following information for us to properly isolate the concern and provide a more established resolution:

• Does Windows Hello facial recognition ever worked before?
• What is the make and model of your device?

The problem is that I am not able to add a Microsoft account to Windows 10. Windows Hello is working fine. The issue is when I attempt to add a Microsoft account I get:

I can't help I'm afraid but I am having exactly the same problem and am getting exactly the same messages.

I have just bought a brand new laptop and have therefore been trying to set up the mail etc. on this. I set up both Windows Hello and a pin on the first time of turning the laptop on last night and I know they work as they work when I sign in at the start-up of the laptop but will not let me add my Hotmail account in Mail or will let me sign in o my Xbox profile via Minecraft. Interestingly Mail lets me add my gmail account with no issue.
