Having trouble uninstalling mcafee.....

Evening, 

First time I've done this....I'm trying to uninstall Mcafee so I can have Windows defender. I've read the treads here which are excellent.....But everytime I try to uninstall Mcafee it won't let me. Says mcafee agent is using some products. Would anyone know what I can do at this point???? I have Windows Vista......Should I even bother with uninstalling mcafee?? I loaded microsoft essential protection and I read you don't need both....

Help!!

Forget about using Windows Defender:

Microsoft Security Essentials has its own built-in version of Defender and should automatically disables Vista's version of Windows Defender.

If it doesn't:

Turn Windows Defender on or off information at the above Microsoft link.

You should NOT have 2 AVs installled.

It may cause System crashes, freezing etc.

How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe)

Windows Vista \ 7

  1. Click Start, Search, type Programs and Features, and clickGo.
  2. Double-click Programs and Features.
  3. Select the McAfee SecurityCenter product.
  4. Click Uninstall and follow the steps provided.

Step 2 - Download and run MCPR.exe

  1. Download the removal tool from: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe 
  2. Click Save and save the file to a folder on your computer.
  3. Navigate to the folder where the file was saved.
  4. Make sure all McAfee windows are closed.
  5. Double-click MCPR.exe to run the removal tool.

Use the above McAfee Removal Tool..
