had a page come up on screen saying do not shut off computer call this number 8445172296 immediately

Like the subject i had a page pop up on my screen that said do not shut down ,restart your computer call this number immediately.  I called the number and the man said i had a virus and they needed to remove from my computer wanted me to restart and started giving me direction of do this and that and i told him said page not available had me restart wifi (which i did not) since the screen said dont turn off or restart I felt it was a scam. I finally told him would have to wait for my husband to get home that he knows more about this than i do, and he hung up.

That's a fake so-called Tech Support scam.

Good that you at least did not allow those scammers remote access...

Next time you see something like that:

If you can't close your browser in a normal way: Open Task Manager (press Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard) and in the tab Processes end all browser processes.

A good ad blocker should prevent these fake surveys/warnings/alerts. Tracking blockers help too.

I use and recommend the free extensions uBlock Origin and Ghostery.

Most browsers offer the same or similar extensions... 

Also go through your browser's settings and adjust them to your wishes. For example, block 3rd party cookies etc.
