Gray screen on powering up laptop in windows 7

I am having issues when I power on my Compaq laptop.  In the last three weeks, every time my computer powers up (either from restart or a complete power off I get a gray screen.  Every time I am required to perform a system repair/restore.  This seems to fix the issue but only until the next time I am required to restart or power up my computer.  Please help ... this is extremely frustrating as the computer is less than 4 months old!  Thank you, Michele
