Often a website will change it's Security slightly which makes a desktop icon stop working as you expect it to. This happens most often with banks, but can happen with any site. When it does just put the icon in the Recyle Bin and create a new one.
To create a new desktop icon for Google Search, type google.com in the URL bar in Google Chrome to open Google search page., Next click the middle Minimize button at top right corner of window to make the window smaller. Using the mouse, place the cursor on
the icon to the left of URL you typed, hold left click and drag the icon onto the Desktop. There is a tutorial illustrating this here:

Now you have a new Google Search page icon on your desktop.
