Hi recently my pc started experience massive lag spikes mid game. I thought it was in internet issue so I bought powerline adapters to fix it. This didn’t help. I launched rainbow six siege (although the problem persists in every game) because of the ping and fps counters. I noticed that I was actually experiencing massive fps drops mid game. I’ve updated all possible drivers known to man is there any other way to fix this issue? I have an rx 6600 xt and an i3 12100f.

Hi,Noah_22
Hello, thank you for your reply, the clean start is just for troubleshooting if the problem is related to other software you have installed or third-party services that are interfering.
Considering that you've already ruled out network-related issues (since you're already using a powerline adapter) and that the driver is up-to-date, let's explore other possible causes of this issue:
1. Thermal throttling
Problem: If your CPU or GPU gets too hot, it will inhibit performance to prevent corruption, which can lead to a drop in in-game FPS.
What to do: Use software to monitor CPU and GPU temperatures. If temperatures are too high (most GPUs / CPUs are usually above 85-90°C), consider improving airflow in the PC case, removing dust, or even reapplying thermal paste to the CPU/GPU.
2. Power Supply Problems
The Problem: A weak or malfunctioning power supply unit (PSU) can lead to erratic performance, especially if your GPU and CPU require more power during gameplay.
What to do: Check if your PSU has enough wattage to handle your system's needs.
Test your power supply with a multimeter or switch to a known working power supply to see if the problem persists.
3. V-Sync and Frame Rate Limiting
Problem: If your frame rate fluctuates a lot, enabling V-Sync or frame rate limiting may cause lagging
Workaround: Try turning off V-Sync or any frame rate caps in your game settings. Or, if you have a compatible monitor and GPU, you can enable frame rate targeting or adaptive synchronization.
Disable V-Sync in the Game and GPU Control Panel.
4. Power settings in Windows
Problem: Windows power settings can degrade performance, especially when set to power saving mode.
TREATMENT: Go to Control Panel > Power Options and make sure you are using the High Performance Program, which will keep your CPU and GPU at a higher performance level.
Fix: Set to High Performance Mode in Power Options and make sure your system is not trying to save power during gameplay.
5. GPU Driver or Game Specific Settings
Problem: Sometimes, drivers or game-specific settings can cause FPS to drop.
How to deal with it: Use AMD's Clean Uninstall tool to completely remove the current driver and then reinstall the latest driver from AMD's website. You can also try installing a specific driver version (sometimes newer drivers can introduce problems, while older drivers may offer better stability).
6. Storage issues (HDD/SSD)
Problem: If your system is low on storage space or your HDD/SSD is not performing well, this can lead to lag or FPS drops.
What to do: Use a tool to check your storage to make sure there are no errors or bad sectors on your HDD/SSD. If your game is installed on a slower hard drive, try moving it to an SSD for faster load times and smoother game play.
7. BIOS and Chipset Updates
Problem: Outdated BIOS or chipset drivers may cause system instability or poor hardware performance.
Solution: Check the motherboard manufacturer's website for BIOS updates and install the latest chipset drivers.

Update, if you are using a high resolution such as 2K, you can first try to switch to 1K resolution for the game to see if it is normal.
