Forgot log-in password for Windows Vista Home Basic.

You may try to enable the built-in administrator account on your machine. Thereafter, try  creating a new user account.

To login to the Administrator account, follow these steps.

a. Click Start, right-click on Computer then click Manage.

b. Expand Local Users and Groups, and then click the Users folder.

c. Right-click on the Administrator login and click Properties, then remove the check from Account is disabled.

d. Then restart the computer and login to the Administrator account.

NOTE: Make sure to disable the built-in administrator account once the issue is fixed.

Original Title: forgot password.

I forgot my password for Vista Home Basic. I am administrator, too! I DID ctreate system restore CDs, when first puchased, but there are 16 of them, because I did not have a DVD handy at the time. Can I use those disks to reset password? I have also reset password several times, since creating those CD's. Tried starting in safe mode, butstill needed password! I cant use my laptopat all, without a password.

you can not use recovery cds to reset your password

you will have to reinstall vista using those cds you made

boot from the first cd and keep following the instructions to reinstall vista

furthermore you can not get help in these forums to recover your forgotten password as it is against microsoft policy to do so
