Firewall blocking Family Tree Maker 2014.1 from internet

I am running FTM2014.1 on a windows 10 HP Laptop (not an upgrade from 7 or  8).

it did have MacAfee but I have uninstalled this.

When I try to access web search I  get a message saying no internet or a firewall is blocking the program Internet works OK other than this.

Is there a way of telling Windows defender to allow access by FTM

I Have tried numerous searches for a solution without success.

Hi Edward,

You can visit Add an exclusion to Windows Defender Antivirus to prevent Windows Defender from blocking your program.

Looking forward to your response.

Update:  It's not Microsoft, and it's not us. Here is what MacKiev says

****

TreeSync stopped working

Your trees cannot be synced at present because on March 29, 2017, Ancestry permanently retired TreeSync®. It is being replaced by Software MacKiev's state-of-the-art FamilySync syncing technology. FamilySync will be available only in our Family Tree Maker 2017 edition when it is released.

Please note that it is only syncing that is not working. As agreed with Ancestry, hints, search, merge, maps, Web view and other connections to Ancestry will all continue running in older versions until FTM 2017 is released. We hope that this will allow you to continue your research while waiting for syncing to resume.

FTM 2017 is currently undergoing thorough testing to ensure that the released product works exactly as it should. You can follow the latest news on the release here.

If you would like to find out about purchasing or upgrading to FTM 2017, product features and syncing, or the upcoming release, please click here to read our FAQ where we provide answers to your questions.

I have tried the suggested exclusion in windows defender without success.

I am aware that treesync has been disabled but I cannot get a websearch through the old version. It would seem that this has also been discontinued since the new version released.

A rip off to force purchase of upgrade in my opinion.

I suspect that all online connectivity is no longer functional, but I'm more upset because I wasted time troubleshooting their error message "Connection Unavailable: There is no connection to the Internet or a firewall is preventing Family Tree Maker from accessing the Internet." since it makes it appear like there is an issue with the firewall or Windows Defender settings.
