File Explorer navigation pane suddenly very big

My file explorer's navigation pane suddenly got very spread out and I can't figure out how to get it back to normal

I'm using windows 11 on a hp envy x360 laptop

When was the last time it worked properly? Can you check if you have recently installed September KB5043076 update?
Open Settings > Windows Update > Update history

yes it appears it updated the day before to KB5043076

Thank you for updating me with that information. Please try uninstalling the said update and see if it fixes the issue.

I've uninstalled it and the navigation panel looks good now but now I can't open my start menu. I've tried restarting my laptop but it didn't work.
