File Explorer is slow showing properties for .ogg type files.

When I attempt to right click on a .ogg file to view the properties, File Explorer freezes for over a minute before finally completing the action.  This problem only appears with .ogg type files, and all other files work fine.

System Specifications:

Edition - Windows 10 Home

Version - 2004

OS Build - 19041.572

Experience - Windows Features Experience Pack 120.2212.31.0

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is William, I’m an Independent Advisor. I'll be happy to help you out today.

My guess is that Windows indexing is the file properties. See if disabling the indexing of these file types helps. To do this, go to the Start menu > type index > select Indexing Options > Advanced > select the File Type tab > uncheck .ogg.

I have already done this and re-indexed my files.  The delay when I right-click on a .ogg file is still present, however.

Do you have a file explorer extension installed that includes right-click contextual menu option for .ogg files? If so, that extension could be the cause. To confirm if this, or any other file explorer extension is the cause, download and run with administrative permissions Autoruns: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/d.... When it finishes loading, go to the Options menu and check the options to Hide Microsoft and Windows Entries. Next, go to the Explorer tab and the items remaining will be the 3rd party extensions that are loading into Explorer.

Specifically, you should focus on HKLM\...\ContextMenuHandlers. Uncheck them and see if the issue goes away. You will then need to enable them one at a time until it comes back to determine which one is causing the issue. You can then leave it disabled or uninstall the program associated with the extension.

Are they large files?

If you have a secondary account you can logon to (or create a new local account), see if the issue happens there as well. This would isolate the cause to either the profile or the system.

Uninstalling Web Media Extensions worked for me like a charm.
