Dear Microsoft Team,
I would like to express my concerns regarding the Windows 11 Start Menu, particularly its usability for users who manage a large volume of applications.
As someone who frequently uses hundreds of programs, I find the current configuration of the Start Menu quite lacking. The single icon size and type create a cluttered experience that severely hampers efficiency. While I appreciate the ability to create folders by dragging and dropping icons, the limitation on subfolders and the inability to view icons in multiple lines make navigation cumbersome. The result feels more suited for a mobile phone than a professional workspace.
I reverted to using "Open-Shell/Open-Shell-Menu: Classic Shell Reborn" at home due to these issues; however, I am unable to install third-party programs at my office.
The last time I found the vanilla MS Start Menu effective was in Windows 7, where multiple folders and subfolders, together with vertical distribution of viewed programs (in separate lines, small icons) significantly improved program accessibility.
There I could check 1 sub-subfolder, or go back and check another subfolder in a moment.
If I do not remmember exact name of my program, I could find it in a 5 seconds.
But now in Win 11 (and some before), I watch potatoes on my screen and lose minutes to find some specific rare used program, if I find it at all.
The current design of Windows 11 appears to prioritize a mobile experience, which is not conducive to a productive working environment on a PC. Locating specific programs has become increasingly time-consuming.
I urge your team to consider the needs of desktop users and explore the possibility of enhancing the Start Menu to allow for a more organized and efficient access to applications.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
P
