Fast Startup Disabled, But Still Not Working

Hi,

After the most recent windows 10 system update (during October 2017), Fast Startup seems to have been re-enabled by default.

I disabled "fast startup" [Control Panel, Power Options, Settings, Choose What The Power Buttons Do, Turn On Fast Startup (cleared check box) ].

However, it does not work.  Whether I "shutdown" or "restart", (via menu options) or shutdown with power button, then restart, the systems seems to always go into hibernate/sleep mode--previously open screens keep reappearing.  So I cannot get a "clean" reboot.

Help appreciated. Thanks.

As an alternative, you can try the BAT or registry edit mentioned here:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-turn-o...
Please let me know your Current Windows 10 version and build so that I can reproduce.

Hi,

Here is the OS info:

Edition:    Windows 10 Pro (64-bit)

Version:   1709

OS Build: 16299.19

Will take a look at the registry edit option.

Thanks.

Hi,

It is possible that some configurations on your PC such as registry and BIOS configuration is preventing your PC from totally shutting down. This thread seems to be inactive for some time now, do you still need further assistance?

We'll be looking forward for your reply.

Regards.

Hi,

Still trying to find a solution.  Dell recommended reinstalling Windows, but that is my very last resort, especially since there is no guarantee that the problem will be resolved.

I never really mess with the registry, except to clean it, but will take a look at that and the BIOS.  I run Glary Utilities and select "Restart PC".  That seems to give me a clean reboot.

Regards.

Are you using a laptop or a PC? If you are using a laptop, then Dell should've provided you key points in configuring your BIOS in order to disable the fast startup of your PC. If you're not able to turn off fast startup by configuring the BIOS, we recommend doing a repair upgrade instead of reinstalling Windows itself. To do a repair upgrade, kindly refer to this link.
