Event 8194 VSS During McAfee Full Scan

My system crashes while running a McAfee Full Scan. The Event Viewer returns an Error message: Event 8194 VSS, which pertains to the Volume Shadow Copy. I have spoken with McAfee and they are aware of the problem. However, they do not have a solution.

Any ideas on how to correct this issue?

Thanks, Bill

Answer

Hi,

Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue?

Method 1: Check if the Volume Shadow Copy service is running on your computer or not.

a)    Click ‘Start’, type ‘services.msc’ and hit Enter.

b)    Locate “Volume Shadow Copy” and check if the service is started.

c)    Right click on Volume Shadow Copy service and select Start.

d)    If you get error trying to force start the Volume Shadow Copy service, try to change the Startup Type to ‘Automatic’, and then restart the computer.

Method 2: I would suggest you to perform SFC scan and check if it helps. To do so, please refer to the following article. The SFC /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

For more information how to do SFC/ scan, please follow this link:

Method 3: I would also suggest you to run a complete system scan on the computer using Microsoft Safety Scanner and check if the computer and check if that helps.

You may download and run the Microsoft Safety scanner from the following link.
