Ethernet Connection Issues after Windows Update

Hi,

2024-07 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 23H2 for x64 (KB5039895)

2024-07 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 23H2 for x64 (KB5041169)

2024-07 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5040527)

After the above updates on the 31/07/24 my PC is now unable to connect to internet via ethernet cable. Originally when I first booted the PC up it was not registering the ethernet cable at all - after uninstalling and reinstalling the ethernet adapter driver it connects to the internet but will only through windows and browsers. For clarification - I can use firefox but it won't let me download anything and all of my applications that require internet connection won't load, including the microsoft store. Connecting to the network via usb tethering and wi-fi is the only way I can use my pc normally, otherwise I'm limited to just using the browser.

Fixes i've tried;

- disabling firewall to see if that was preventing third party apps from loading

- safe reinstalled windows - the option where it keeps your files

- uninstalled the above updates

- roll back to before the update

- launched in safe mode

- used command prompt to scan for system file errors

- troubleshooted network - is not finding any issues

My partner also has a PC that runs Windows 10 - the above updates landed on his PC the day after and caused the same problems.

Are there any fixes for this or is it just waiting to see if the next update will fix it?

Hello, SophieKM.

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

From your description, I understand that you updated Windows but the network is abnormal.

After reinstalling the Ethernet network card driver, you can only use the network in the browser.

I understand your feelings.

Please use the network reset command when the Ethernet is connected.

This may work.

Please run Command Prompt as an administrator ("Win" logo key + "Q", enter "cmd", select "Run as administrator"), and enter the following commands one by one.

netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winhttp reset proxy

If the network repair command does not work.

Please change the network card driver for testing.

(Uninstall the Ethernet driver first)

  1. If you are using a laptop, please download the driver provided by the laptop manufacturer.

  2. If you are using a desktop computer, please download the driver provided by the motherboard manufacturer.

  3. You can also try third-party driver installation tools, which can often automatically scan drivers and download and install them.

If changing the network card driver does not solve the problem and you are not using a VPN program, please report the problem and test process to the developer.

You can submit your problem through the Feedback Hub (if convenient, please provide as much detail as possible, including pictures, repro videos, etc.).

Please share the feedback link after submitting, I will submit your feedback to the relevant team for investigation through internal channels.

If there are any updates, please feel free to reply.

Best regards.
