ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_NOT_FOUND (0x800736b3) installing Windows 7 SP1

Original title: ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_NOT_FOUND (0x800736b3)

I cannot install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 Professional on my HP ProBook 4710s 32 bit laptop (originally with Vista pro and upgraded to 7 Pro) either through Windows Update or direct download even after running the Troubleshooter, installing the Microdsoft Update Standalone Package Windows6.1-KB947821-v10-x86.msu and in all combinations of with disabled or enabled antivirus program (ESET NOD32 in my case.

The error i get is "ERROR_SXS_ASSEMBLY_NOT_FOUND (0x800736b3)"

I will appreciate any help.

Hi Adonis, I feel your pain I truly do, I tried to get sp1 installed for the last month ive read post after post, then I fell across this one, it is the holy grail of fix's, I have sp1 installed by following the info at this page, I hope you get this.

Hi Adonis,

 

You may try the following steps and check if you can install SP1.

Method 1:

You may try running a SFC scan and check.

This issue may occur if a particular system file is missing or corrupt.

You may refer the Method -The System File Checker tool in the following KB article:

Method 2:

You may also try running the system update readiness tool and check if you can install the update.
