error message: the operating system is not presently configured to run this application

like several others (e.g. Arsal194 on December 9) I also get this error message regularly. I have no idea which event could be the issue.

The first event is just the information, the second describes the error, in my case it is again dllhost.exe, but in this case in conjunction with Kernelbase.dll.

All this started after upgrading to win 10, version 1511.

I am sorry the screenshots are in German, but I hope it is obvious what is meant.

What to do to avoid the regular error windows coming up.

  1. Since when are you facing this issue?
  2. Have you made any recent changes prior to this issue?
  3. When exactly you get the error message? Is it while you access Microsoft office applications?

Restart the computer and check if it helps:

Also, check for Windows updates. Try to run the following commands and check if it helps.

  1.  Type CMD in Search. Right click on it to run as an administrator.

  2. Type the following 4 commands at the CMD prompt:

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfc /scannow

powershell

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like "*SystemApps*"} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

  • Close the CMD window.
  • Check to see if the issue is resolved. If not, restart the PC.

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files:
