Question

Q: "Error Loading Operating System" on boot

Hi, I've searched for my problem in different places, but all I can find are variations of it. I though posting here would be my best bet.

I have Windows 7 installed on my AMD Dual Core PC
I attached an empty external drive through a USB port
I put in my Windows XP CD in the computers DVD drive
I restarted the computer and boot from the CD
I chose to install XP on my empty external harddrive
Windows XP was loading and copying its setup files, then restarted as part of the installation
When the computer boot up again, after the post BIOS message I got a black screen saying "Error Loading Operating System."

My motherboard is ASUS M3A76-CM.

Thanks for reading.

Answer

A:

The BIOS only specifies which disk to boot from. It doesn't care which if any OS is installed. Make sure the BIOS is trying to boot from the right disk. There's nothing else to do there. Do you have more than one hard disk installed? Try setting the BIOS to each in turn.
