Q: Error Found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode

I'm trying to run a CHKDSK on my External Hard Drive and everytime I get this:

The type of file system is NTFS.

Error found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode.

What should I do?
I'm using Windows 7 on my Acer laptop.

i would suggest you to go through the steps mentioned in the link and check.

A Chkdsk command fails with an unspecified error on a Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that uses a low frequency AMD CPU

You may also use the recovery console to run checkdisk and check.

What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?

You can open command prompt and type: chkdsk/f c:

Run Check Disk from a Command Line to Check for and fix Disk Errors
