Error Found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode

I'm trying to run a CHKDSK on my External Hard Drive and everytime I get this:

CHKDSK E:
The type of file system is NTFS.

Error found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode.

What should I do? 
I'm using Windows 7 on my Acer laptop.

Hi,

 

i would suggest you to go through the steps mentioned in the link and check.

A Chkdsk command fails with an unspecified error on a Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that uses a low frequency AMD CPU

You may also use the recovery console to run checkdisk and check.

You can open command prompt and type: chkdsk/f c:
