Error code 80004005 on KB 2729094 update

The recent update of Win7 X64 for KB 2729094 has failed repeatedly with Error Code 80004005.  I recently had a partial hard drive failure in my system drive (C:).  The system became unstable so I installed a new hard drive and did a sector by sector copy of my hard drive to the new hard drive.  The OS seems to work fine and other updates were subsequently installed without issue.   I don't know if the disk failure is related but thought I should mention it.

The 094 update installed without error on 8/15 but was downloaded again on 10/10 and did not install.  It has installed properly on several of my other machines but not on this one.  I would appreciate any guidance on how to get this update installed or to repair the installation of the Segoe font that is addressed.  Note that the manual download and install failed also.

Any suggestions?

I installed the Fix It at that link (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2714434), restarted my computer, and the update still failed.

I recently had to restore my computer from a recovery point and the update seems to fail around the "creating recovery point" step.  Is there a fix for this?

I also tried to perform a clean boot as instructed in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135. When I did Step 1 and booted with only the microsoft services, the update still failed.

Jess,

0x80004005= unspecified error - may occur because of programs/services interfering in the background.

Try manually downloading and installing the problem update -

Verify that the time, date/year & time-zone are set correctly

<<Set the clock>>

First clear up your Temp File/Cache.

Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup

Best and easier to use - CCleaner.

Download the basic (slim) build via

The basic (slim) build does not contain the disgusted Toolbar

DO NOT USE ANY Advanced cleaning options.

DO NOT TOUCH THE REGISTRY. At least not for now.

Reboot

Manually install.

e.g., <http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/search.aspx?q=KB2729094>

Download, *save*, and install the kb2729094 with no security software installed,

(1) • Disable your anti-viяus application, (antivirus/security suite) installed, (In addition, you may want to temporarily uninstall (antivirus/security suite) and try the update.

Sometimes, antivirus programs are not truly disabled when we disable them as they have very deep hooks into the operating system.)

(2) • Disconnect disconnect from Internet,

(3) • Disable disable the fire-wall &

(4) • Close all non-essential process in the task manager (i.e., anything with an icon on the task bar) (all of them, basically) from the system tray (lower right)..

I also recommend taking off USB keys or any external media as this takes place. (like USB drives, printers, scanners, etc.)

TIP: Save the download to your desktop, right-click on the saved file and select Run as Administrator.

No luck. Still failing. Here's what I did:

1. Date/time/time zone are correct
2. temp files/history, cache deleted
3. Ran Disk Cleanup and deleted the files
4. Even though I did the steps above, I also downloaded and ran the ccleaner. Did not use any Advanced options or the Registry cleanup.
5. Rebooted
6. Uninstalled Anti-malware program
7. Uninstalled AVG virus scanning program
8. Disabled Windows Firewall for Domain profile, private profile, and public profile
9. Manually downloaded KB2729084 from: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30601
 - The link you provided required me to validate my copy of windows. I went to the validation page, clicked Continue, clicked Run, and got a message that "The version of the Windows Genuine Advantage validation tool is no longer supported. Please download the newest version and ensure that your system clock is accurate." I spent 15 minutes trying to find a "newer" version for Windows 7 but gave up and found the link that I provided that did not take me to the validation page.
10. Disconnected all USB devices.
11. Disabled the internet from my wireless radio toggle
12. Checked the task manager and closed just about everything except
 - Desktop Window Manager
 - Windows Explorer
 - VESMgrSub
 - taskmgr
 - winlogon
 - taskhost
 - csrss
 - atieclxx
 - wuauclt
13. Opened the .msu file for KB2729094, clicked Yes to Install, update failed. The message said that the update was not installed.

I also opened my Windows Update Installed Updates and found that KB2729094 was installed on 8/22/2012. I tried to Uninstall it and got a message "An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled."

You are not serious Jose are you?
To go through all of that trouble for an update that should not fail?
If it don't work and you're not the architect, leave it until it's fixed

after much work, here's how i solved the problem.

1) updated Java to latest version 8-60
