Error Code 1603 Windows Installer.

On installing the software for new Wireless Optical desktop keyboard and mouse 1000, received error code 1603, unable to install a required component, Windows Installer. Tried information from Microsoft with regards to downloading an EXE. file from the supplied CD but message received " the version I have on my system is newer than the one on the CD!"

Tried downloading newer version from Microsoft downloads but got same error message.

Any ideas please?

Answer

Hi,

Which version of Windows installer are you trying to install on the computer?

Error 1603 occurs if any one of the following conditions is true:

• The folder that you are trying to install the Windows Installer package to is encrypted.
• The drive that contains the folder that you are trying to install the Windows Installer package to is accessed as a substitute drive.
• The SYSTEM account does not have Full Control permissions on the folder that you are trying to install the Windows Installer package to.
You notice the error message because the Windows Installer service uses the SYSTEM account to install software.

You may refer this KB article for help:

Troubleshoot installing Intellipoint, IntelliType, or LifeCam software:

If that doesn’t work, then download the latest driver for the mouse before installing the software. Here is a link that you can follow to download and install
the latest drivers:

Select the product and the Operating System.
