Error code 0x80070002?

On 09/08/2020 I had a successful Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4571756). I received a notice for another update on 09/13/2020. I tried to update, 3 times, and failed, 3 times  Continuing into today I tried 5 times and failed 5 times. After looking into my update history, I then realized it was KB4571756 that was trying to update. Why? After each failed attempt I got a message ending with error code 0x80070002. I've tried every recommended solution offered online, but nothing seems to be able to solve this problem. What exactly is error code 0x80070002 ?

Hi, I'm David, an Independent Advisor, here to help you.

I understand that you are receiving an error while installing a Windows update.

Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter:
https://support.microsoft.com/help/4027322/wind...

Also, try resetting the Windows Update components manually by following these steps:
https://docs.microsoft.com/windows/deployment/u...

Here's another Microsoft Support article that may help:

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions.

Hey David,

Thank you for your quick response. I've tried everything you suggested except resetting the Windows Update components manually. It looks interesting, I'll give a try and let you know.

Now before I do this, do you remember I said I had a successful installation of KB4571756 on 09/08. Then, starting on 09/13, it's trying to make another installation of KB4571756 (the message with the error code is still there today). Should I still proceed?

When you make Windows check for updates, does it still report this update as pending even after all these procedures?

If so, check if you have any system restore points before this update and restore Windows to this point and try to update it again.

Hey David,

Thank you so much for your time and effort. I really appreciate it. I did the system restore (I had turned on the Virtual Machine Platform and the Windows Hypervisor Platform features for the Bluestacks Emulator. I didn't like Bluestacks, so I turned them back off) and the message and error code are still there.

But you know what David, my computer is working fine. The stand alone update I tried to install stated that KB4571756 is already installed so... we shall see. If I have any actual problems in the future, I'll be back. In the meantime, be well.

Again, thank you for all your time and trouble.

Hey David,

One more thing. The issue with Bluestacks happened on 09/12 (the restore point date) and I started getting the error code on 09/13. That, I find very interesting.

Later.
