This is not an easy problem to solve.

Your computer has not been harmed in any way. The message means that some software your computer was running at the time you shutdown was not able to close properly. As a result, Windows had to forcibly close whatever software was causing the problem.

This would be easier to solve if Windows would say which software could not close properly on its own, but Windows doesn't tell you this. You may be able to find out by looking in Event Viewer.

The software causing the problem is frequently a driver, but you won't know for sure until you see it in Event Viewer.

The more you understand, the more you succeed.

Use SFC and see if any corrupt files are found:

If no corrupt files are found, boot Windows into Clean Boot to see if the problem is being caused by a 3rd party app:

This is an issue due to a bug in the latest Microsoft windows 11 update Kb5034765. This isn't just happening to a few people it's happening to a lot of or maybe even all the people that use a Microsoft Xbox controller accessory connected to their PC. It's hilarious because this update became an issue in the January update and the February update was meant to fix it as one of the things it addressed yet it actually is now impacting a larger number of people.

FYI clean install of windows or running sfc or dism will not solve this issue. It will appear to be resolved for like 1 or 2 boot cycles and then resurface. I uninstalled the February patch and issue is gone. I'll keep updates paused and will see what happens come march patch.

One thing that may work as a solution is to first uninstall the KB5034765 update. Then once you reboot PC and back into windows.

Run disk cleanup as admin and remove all temp files including Windows update files.

After that. Unplug your Xbox controller if you are using a wired controller or turn off the wireless controller and remove it from device manager and keep it unplugged or turned off.

Now go on ahead and check for updates through Windows update to reinstall the February windows patch. After installation completes and you have rebooted your PC. Make sure everything working normally and then go ahead and shutdown PC to see if you get the error. If you don't then after shutdown, boot up PC again and you can plug/connect controller back to PC and after controller connected. Shut down PC and hopefully it works for you.

This seems to have resolved the issue for me.

Thanks much this is exactly my issue.

I've been trying to figure this out for a month.

My question is, this doesn't seem to be affecting anything and and now being over a month since this update, do you think it would be OK to uninstall it or should I just wait for a patch?

I forgot tell you the result. It works as you said. I used the Rapoo V600 Controller beside my Xbox 360 controller. Thanks for your help.

After i turn on auto update windows, it still had the same error, so i replace Rapoo V600 Controller with another Xbox 360 Controller, and no more error. So i think the driver of Rapoo V600 Controller has some conflict with the update of Windows.
