error 1920 "cannot read some files" while scanning using Avast security

original Title -

error 1920

Hi, whenever I scan with avast antivirus, at the end it says cannot read some files, error 1920. How do I fix this?

Hi Michael,

Please answer these questions to get more clarity on this issue.

-          Have you logged in as administrator on the computer?

-          Do you have a trial copy of Avast?

-          Do you have any other security software installed apart from Avast security?

This issue might occur if the security software is not able to scan the files due to permissions.

Let us follow these methods and check if this helps.

Method 1.

Disable UAC and check if you are perform the complete scan.

To disable the User Account Control settings on the computer follow these steps:

a)       Press “Windows Logo” + “W”, type “Account Control” in the search bar and press “Enter”.

b)       In the “User Account Control Settings” window, move the slider to “Never Notify” and click “OK”. Once this is done, remember to restart the computer.

Note: User Account Control (UAC) can help you prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. It works by prompting you for permission when a task requires administrative rights, such as installing software or changing settings that affect other users. We don't recommend turning User Account Control off. If you do turn it off, you should turn it back on as soon as possible.

Method 2.

If the issue persists, then boot the computer in safe mode with networking and perform a scan to check the status. Safe Mode with Networking starts Windows in safe mode, however, it also includes the network drivers and services needed to access the Internet or other computers on your network.

I am getting the same error message after running a quick AVAST scan. After you disable UAC, do you rerun the avast scan?
