Error 0xc0000005 upon launching an Application

Hello,

Upon trying to launch a few specific applications (3), they close themself without something popping up. On Event Viewer I say an Error with the Errorcode: 0xc0000005

This is only for a few specific applications, nearly all other programs work fine.

I already tried:

  • Disabling DEP

  • Updating Drivers

  • Updating Windows

  • Deactivating Anti Virus

  • Reinstalling the game

How can this be fixed?

Good day! I'm Raniel, a Microsoft user like you. I understand your frustration regarding this issue and I'll do my best to help.

Just to clarify, have you also tried to right-click on the program and select "run as administrator"?

Kindly run SFC and DISM commands to repair system files
1. On the search bar, type "command prompt" and select Run as administrator
2. Type the following commands in order
sfc /scannow then press Enter
Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /CheckHealth then press Enter
Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /ScanHealth then press Enter
Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth then press Enter
3. Ensure to have the latest version of the following software:
Visual C++ - https://support.microsoft.com/topic/the-latest-...
DirectX - https://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx...
.NET Framework - https://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx...
3. Perform a clean boot and check again: https://support.microsoft.com/help/929135/how-t...

Another option is to enable the "built-in" administrator account to isolate the issue:
1. On your search bar, type command prompt and select "run as administrator"
2. On the command prompt window, type net user administrator /active:yes and press Enter
3. Reboot your machine, then login to your admin account, and check if you'll encounter the same issue.
Note: If you don't encounter the issue on the built-in administrator account, I suggest that you create a new user account (go through the steps under "My computer is in a workgroup") . Please refer to this article as a guide: https://support.microsoft.com/help/14039/window...

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi FreshTeaZS.

Apologies if the suggested methods didn't work for you.

I'm running out of options here. Let's see if someone else has a better idea with regards to this issue.

Hi Fresh Teazs. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

1) Try the fixes here first, which work the same for Windows 10 and 11:

https://thegeekpage.com/fix-application-error-0...

https://appuals.com/the-application-was-unable-...
(Avoid ad links which intrude into editorial copy, especially avoid Restoro, PC Repair Tool and Reimage ads)

2) See if you can System Restore to a point before the problem started:
https://itechhacks.com/system-restore-windows-11/

System Restore is your first line of defense and can take you back to a point before a problem began like a time machine. If it doesn't help then you can undo it. Read about it first in the tutorial above and then try restoring to just before this started. If System Restore is not enabled on C drive do that now so it's available in the future.

If the problem repeats or System Restore doesn't work then check which Windows Updates were installed at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Updates > Update History, uninstall them there or System Restore again, then immediately check for and block the Updates with the Hide Updates tool explained here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8280-hide-s...

3) Try running the Store Apps troubleshooter at Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other Troubleshooters

4) Check if there's another Update for the App in Microsoft Store app > My Library > Get Updates,. Install all available Updates.

4) Establish a Clean Boot to get rid of Startup freeloaders that can hog resources and cause issues by conflicting:
https://www.makeuseof.com/clean-boot-windows-11/

5) Reset the app trying all four Options here:
https://www.elevenforum.com/t/reset-uwp-app-to-...

6) If those all fail then try uninstalling at the above location, restart PC, then reinstall it from Microsoft Store Settings > My Library.

7) Run System File Checker/DISM in WIndows 11:
https://www.elevenforum.com/t/use-system-file-c...

8) If that doesn't fix it then you can do a Windows 11 Repair Upgrade which reinstalls Windows while saving your files and apps in place, brings it up to the latest version by the most stable method, takes about an hour and resolves most problems: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/repair-install-wi...

Feel free to ask back any questions. If you'll report back results for each step, including in each link, it can help determine what else we need to try. I will stick with you until it is fixed.
