Enter network credentials

This is odd. I have a Windows laptop and HP desktop, both with Windows 11. In the past I could easily share files/folders between the two, but now it asks for network credentials (user name and password). I have no clue what to put there, and what is worse, I didn't need to enter those two months ago (both had Windows 11). How do I turn those off, or at least find out what my 'network credentials' are; they are not my user name and password for the laptop nor the desktop. I have looked at different responses, but they either did not work, or it was all greek to me.??????

I asked this a week or two ago, but never got a response. Maybe this time?

What is your Network Username and Password? If you have both computers on a home network, then what is the UN and PW for that network?

If a person has a home network and wants to protect it, then they would set up a Username and Password. If a person signs out of their network, they will need the UN and PW to sign back in.

Thanks everyone. The problem was that I had no clue just what network credentials meant, and it wasn't clear to me how to find what it meant. I finally figured out that it is the username on the unit (in this case my first and last name that shows up when I go to login) and the password is the password I set up along with my other login information (e.g., PIN). I suppose I should have figured this out sooner. :-(

Thanks for all your help and quick response. Things are working now. :-)

Hi Carl -

All of that was explained in my post along with illustrated tutorials to get it set up correctly whether you want password required or not. I included everything you could possibly need to know about network file sharing, including the troubleshooting that works best.

Let me know if I can help further. I'll stay subscribed to this thread in case you need anything else, until the system locks it in a few months.
