Endless boot loop, reconstructing cache metadata

Hi there, running Windows 10, my computer is stuck in an endless loop that indicates "The operating system did not shutdown cleanly. Reconstructing cache metadata".

I was able to F12 and run a quick and thorough diagnostic which returned as error free.

Unfortunately Dell support was not helpful.

Hi,

For us to better know your concern, we'd like to ask some information.

- When did the issue occur?

- Did you made any changes on your computer prior to the issue?

- What troubleshooting steps have you done so far to fix the issue?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you for your quick response, its been going on for a few days, besides powering it down and restarting many times, i ran the diagnostic test via F12. I take the regular windows and itunes updates, i’m not certain how long its been since the last update.

A few days ago, I took a Windows update and when it rebooted the endless black screen started again. It's now been like this for a few days, I cannot get to a login screen to restore to a previous point.

The message reads:

The operating system did not shutdown cleanly. Reconstructing Cache Metadata.

Hi

I had the same issue on my new XPS 8930.

You have to hit F12 on boot up. Just keep pressing it until you get to the screen. You may then see SupportAssist OS Recovery. Go to this and in there you should see restore options. I did not have a restore point ie. I never created one, so I ended up doing a factory reset !

I think the problem occurred because my 9 yr old son who was used to using my battery powered laptop, was going to the socket and switching off the power before the pc had a chance to shutdown properly.

Good luck

Dave
