Edge Favorites Bar Missing

The Favorites Bar has disappeared from Edge.  I get the following message where the Favorites Bar should be.

If I click on "Import your favorites" I get another folder in Favorites with favorites from Internet Explorer, but no items show up in the Favorites Bar.

Also, the Top Sites area only shows a couple of recently accessed sites.  Previously it was full.

Edge seems to have a lot of issues that pop up from time to time.  It seems like it needs work.

So, this just means that you don't have any favorites in the horizontal Favorites Bar.   An easy fix would be to use the vertical Favorites pane (the thing that appears on the right) to move a favorite from one of the imported folders into the *folder* called "Favorites Bar"

I understand that.... that's why I suggested that you add a favorite to the *FOLDER* called "Favorites Bar" in the vertical favorites pane (the thing that appears on the right)

What I said above is not strictly true.

First, there is a folder in my Favorites called Favorites Bar and it doe have sites in it.  However none of those appear where the Favorites Bar should be.

Second, I can put a website in the Favorites Bar by going to the website and then click on the star and add it to the Favorites Bar.  None of the other Favorites that are in the Favorites Bar folder appear.

I had the Favorites Bar disappear one other time after the computer had been to Sleep.  That time when I restarted the computer the Favorites Bar came back with the links that were supposed to be there.  This time a shutdown and start did not bring back the Favorites Bar.

So, what is the cause and how can it be fixed?

It happened again.  I had imported favorites from IE.  Nothing appeared on the Favorites Bar although there were items in the Favorites Bar Folder.  I had added a couple of sites to the Favorites Bar.  They yesterday I got another update from Microsoft and today when I turned on the computer all the Favorites and the Favorites bar were gone from Edge.

I am not sure, but I think the previous disappearances of the Favorites happened after updates.  Edge had been working OK prior to the start of these disappearing Favorites problem.

I went to the suggested previous question about disappearing Favorites.  I entered the suggested path in File Explorer.

There I found a folder named Favorites and it is empty, so that was no help.  In any case I would not want to have to do that restore every time I get an update to Windows or other Microsoft Programs.

I did notice that there were a lot of people with this same problem and apparently it is still happening.

What now? 

I should add that when Edge started today it was like a fresh install of Edge.  The Top Sites were generic ones, not the ones I use and not what had been there yesterday.  None of my settings were there, all the generic ones.

Thanks for the information.  I may give one of the backup plans a try.

I am somewhat more inclined to try another solution - get rid of Edge and use IE or other internet programs.  They have not had the problem.  Edge has, I think, been disappointing.  Microsoft should have been able to do better with it.

Lost Favorites Bar in EDGE?

EASY FIX

1. Open MS Edge

2. LEFT Click on the half star/half lines in upper right corner

3. Make sure the vertical favorites bar is showing then LEFT Click blue "settings "in upper right corner

4. Scroll down to FAVORITES 

5. Under "Show the Favorites Bar LEFT "click "ON"

6. Viola! Horizontal Favorites Bar reappears at the TOP of the Page again!

Thanks for your suggestion, but it did not fix it.  The Favorites Bar was already turned on and is not shown.  I tried turning it off and back on - still nothing.

Not very happy with Edge, I try to avoid using it.
