Due to registry corruption - unable to remove and install mcafee

I am running windows 10.  I purchased mcafee antivirus, however am unable to install it. Mcafee support told, windows registry got corrupt as old version of mcafee couldn't be removed successfully. The key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MCAFEE couldn't be deleted manually or by their removal tool. Please inform how to remove this entry in REGISTRY so that i can install my mcafee antivurs.

Hi debashishpoddar

Click your Start Button, then just type cmd

Form the resulting list, right click Command Prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'

Paste this into Command Prompt and hit Enter

reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MCAFEE /f

When that command completes, close Command Prompt

If that does not succeed in normal mode try running that command in Safe Mode . . .

Press the Shift Key and click Restart
Your PC will boot into the Windows Recovery Environment
Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Startup Settings and click Restart
Upon restart, press 4 to enter Safe Mode

The message i am seeing is given below:

Mcafee cannot be opened, . An error is preventing this key from being opened.  Details: The system cannot find the specified file.
