Driver Power State Failure - Blue Screen

Hello,

I am seeking some guidance in relation to my PC blue screening.

System Specs for reference:

Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix X670E-F

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 64GB (2x32GB) 6000Mhz CL32 DDR5 EXPO (running on the EXPO profile @ 6000Mhz)

GPU: Sapphire Nitro+ RX 7900XTX

STO: 2x 2TB Kingston KC3000

PSU: Corsair SHIFT RM1000x Gold Modular ATX 3.0 1000W

I have been recently experiencing on and off a few AMD Driver Timeouts whilst gaming. However, following these driver time-outs my next restart of the PC when loading into the desktop I experience a Blue Screen advising a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. I have only ever experienced this Blue Screen. Further, these Blue Screens have 99% of the time only occur on a system start up after getting into the desktop. These blue screens will occur approximately 1-3 minutes after being in the desktop after a start-up.

Things I have tried:

Windows 11 fresh install - 3 times.

DDU re-install of the GPU drivers - 2 times.

Disabled Integrated Graphics in BIOS.

Any guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Dump Files currently on my PC in this link: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/exgsl2n0eb014/Dump_Files

Hi Maurice, thanks for reaching out. My name is Bernard a Windows fan like you. I'll be happy to help you out today, I usually reply from 10:00 pm EST(UTC -5) onwards.

I understand the issue you have, there is nothing to worry I am here to help, can you further check if you have more dump files on the PC? As per checking the Minidump files, it is only displaying general errors, in addition, can you please check the System logs on the PC so that we can further examine what is the root cause of the issue?

To do this kindly follow the steps from this link:

Hi Bernard,

Thanks for your reply.

Here is the link to the System Logs via OneDrive - System Logs.evtx

As for the dump files, I do not have any more on the PC. The dump files in the mediafile above are the only ones I currently have on the PC at this time.

Hi Maurice, thank you for that information, as per checking and analyzing the event logs, there are multiple Razer Chroma Stream errors on the PC, in this case, kindly follow the steps below:

Remove Chroma Effect by following the steps from the link below:

Method 2. Do clean boot:
A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

- In the search box on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the results.

- On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.

- On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.

- Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable.

- Close Task Manager.

- On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment.

Troubleshooting reference: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135...

Method 3. Run memory diagnostic tool: The memory diagnostic tool is a RAM test to check for any RAM issues.

- Press Windows key + R then type in mdsched.exe hit OK then restart the device.

Note: If the issue persists, we will run a system repair on the affected device.

Hi Bernard,

Thank you for the reply.

In relation to the Razer Chroma errors and the steps to potentially rectify the issue. I am just removing the Chroma (RGB) Effects off the Razer keyboard, mouse, mousepad and speakers? I don't have to do anything else in relation to the Razer products?

I am currently running a Memory Check as per Method 3 and will let you know what the results are from that.

In the case of the "Clean Boot" I will attempt to do one of those on my days off from work.

Further, I have attached a screenshot which shows what happens when my PC does experience these Blue Screens. Note, the image is showing my second monitor as my main monitor is displaying the Blue Screen message.

Also if you could also shed some light on what causes a DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAULURE so I can have some further knowledge, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, thank you for that information, it seems that the GPU/Graphics card is also experiencing an error, in this case, if all fails on the above troubleshooting steps, We need to run a Clean installation of the AMD driver, this is different from doing DDU or updating the driver as this will remove all entries and replace them with compatible ones, kindly follow the steps from the link below:

Step 1. Completely uninstall the AMD GPU Driver using the steps from this link:
https://www.amd.com/en/resources/support-articl...

Step 2. Reinstall the AMD Graphics driver using the steps from the link below:
Install AMD Radeon and automatically detect the AMD driver:

Hi Bernard,

Thank you so much for the advice.

I also apologise for the late reply.

However,

I have since turned off all the RGB on my Razer products using the advice given by yourself and using the links provided.

I also ran a memory diagnostic test on my RAM which came back clear. No issues detected.

Today, I have uninstalled my GPU drivers using AMDCleanUpUtility in SafeMode. Further, I have also reinstalled the most up-to-date GPU drivers and Chipsets using the AMD Driver installer.

I will keep you posted in the next few days to a week to see if this issue of Blue Screen and AMD Driver Time-outs persists.

Thank you again.

Kind regards,

Maurice

Hi Bernard,

I thought I would get in touch again now that it has been approximately three (3) weeks since we last diagnosed the potential issue.

I have since been running the same GPU drivers as well as the same Chipset.

I have also kept the RGB turned off on all my Razer peripherals.

I am happy to say that I have no experienced a single Blue Screen as of yet....touch wood.

I was wondering should I turn on the RGB on my Razer peripherals and see if I experience a Blue Screen? As this may narrow it down to the RGB being the certain suspect in the Blue Screens?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Maurice
