Download music from cd.

Hi

Hope somebody can help. I am trying to download music cd to copy onto MP3 Player. I was able to do this using Windows 10 but new laptop has Windows 11 pre installed. After downloading I receive an message saying cannot open. It has happened with every CD I have tried to download. These are purchased CD's and not copies.

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

1
What method are you using to RIP a CD onto your drive, are you using the old Legacy Windows Media Player and is that set to RIP the audio tracks to MP3 files?

2
In File Explorer, find one of the audio files you have ripped to your PC from a CD, right click that file and select Properties, please provide a screenshot of the resulting dialog box.

Thank you for the screenshot, those are just CDA files, which are basically shortcuts to the actual media files on the CD, they are not audio files.

To RIP CD's into your PC, you need to use the old legacy Windows Media Player, not that new Windows 11 Media Player.

First check if the old Windows Media Player is installed on your PC, click your Start Button, then just type WMP do you see the old Windows Media Player in the resulting list?

If you do, use the steps provided on this link to rip the audio tracks form the CD's

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/bur...

If the old Windows Media Player is not installed:

Open the old Control Panel

Set View at the top to large icons

Open Programs and Features.

On the left, click ''Turn Windows Features on or off'.

Expand the Media Features section and from there, enable the old Windows Media Player (legacy).

Hi Dave

Again thanks for your help. I am 85 years old and technology is sometimes a struggle with me. In fact my great granddaughter knows more than me.

Anyway followed your instructions and now have Windows Media Legacy pinned in my taskbar. Will download a CD later in the day.

Many thanks

Ted

Are you wanting to rip your CDs?

Open the Control Panel>Windows Tools and look for Windows Media Player Legacy and install it. Set it up for ripping the music and how you want it to be saved. See images below. Click on, tap, or activate images to enlarge them.

Be sure to look at Tools>Options.
