Dont have permission to update or install drivers, Please Help

Hi,

I recently got a new Gaming Headset and A Wacom Intuos Tablet and i cannot use them.

I went into device manager and opened "USB audio device" which had an error sign on it and in Device Status it says

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

Access is denied.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.

When I click update driver, it says after a few minutes of scanning online than it found the driver but cannot install it.

It says

"Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device"

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while trying to install it"

"USB Composite Device"

"Access is denied"

I tried manually installing it manually with a number of softwares but it just says "Access Denied"

I have tried taking control, Going to regedit, going to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ENUM\USB, Right Clicking the USB folder and selecting Permissions,  verifying Everyone is a listed group and that Read is checked, the Clicked the Advanced tab and make sure Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent is selected, then Navigated to the Owner tab and make sure Replace owner on subcontainers and objects is selected,

But when i clicked apply it said "Registry editor could not set security in the current key selected, or some of its subkeys. And sometimes just Error.

I really dont know what to do, I tried updating Windows but it keeps failing to update.

If somebody has a solution please reply, Thanks.

Hi DaraghMcNamara,
Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

In order to help you better please provide us the following information:
1. Do the devices work on a different computer (running the same Operating System)?
2. Have you made any other changes on the computer?

This problem may occur if file is corrupted. I would suggest you to download the inbuilt driver of Gaming Headset from the Manufacturer website and then check if your issue is resolved or not.

Please follow the below link on "Error codes in Device Manager in Windows " and Look for your Error code for more description:

Hi,

Thank you for the information.

I would suggest you to run the Microsoft safety scanner and check if the issue still persists. It is a security tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. Please refer to the below link on Microsoft Safety Scanner to download and run on your system

http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

NOTE: Data or files which are infected by malware might be beyond cleaning and have to be deleted entirely to maintain the integrity of your system, which means there might be a potential for data loss.

Please post back with the current status of the issue so that we can help you further.

Thanks & Regards,
AS
