Does windows 11 spellchecker only apply to windows apps like Word.

One of the Windows 11 options for typing is for text suggestions whenever using a keyboard but that does not seem to work nor any other spell checking. Under typing all 4 of these options are ON: 1) Show text suggestions when typing on the physical keyboard; 2) Multilingual text suggestions; 3) Autocorrect misspelled words; 4) Highlight misspelled words. It used to show when I was entering text in almost any app. - specifically Wordpress Gutenberg editor. Now it no longer seems to. Any suggestions? NOTE: Something IS finding errors as I type this question - seems to work here! I am not aware of any other spellchecker on my system.

I use win 11 and edge on an HP laptop. Windows update tells me I am up to date.

Hi, Bruce Singleton

Welcome to the MicroSoft Community.

I’m glad to hear that the spellchecker is working again on your Windows 11 system. The Windows 11 spellchecker is not limited to Windows apps like Word. It should work system-wide, including in third-party applications like Notepad, WordPad, and even web browsers like Edge. The spellchecker relies on the operating system’s language settings and the language pack installed.

I can't elucidate how it works for you and I think there may be a few reasons for rebooting back to normal:

1. Temporary file removal: When you restart your computer, the system will automatically remove some temporary files and cached data, including the temporary files generated by Windows Input Method during the running process. These temporary files may sometimes cause problems with the input method, including the spelling suggestion function not working properly. Clearing these temporary files can help the input method return to normal operation.

2. Reset system services: When you restart your computer, the system will reset some services, including those related to Windows Input Method. This can help fix some input method problems caused by wrong settings or service failures, including the spelling suggestion function not working properly.

However, you don't need to think about it too much, if the input method spelling suggestion function fails again, you are welcome to post in the forum again, I am very happy to do my best to help you solve the problem.

Best Regards
