Hi Dan,

Windows Defender has, over the last few years become a fully featured Security solution

It is on a par with paid for Anti-virus software, the virus definitions are updated regularly, it will not slow our PC down, works well with Edge and it is Free

Honestly, you do not need more protection than Defender can supply . ..

Hi Dan. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

No. Defender gives best Windows performance, least issues and is from Microsoft who knows how to protect their OS best.

I would uninstall any 3rd party antivirus and try running only built-in Defender which gives adequate protection, best Windows performance, least issues, and is from Microsoft who knows how to protect their OS best. If you want the best on-demand scanners install and run Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner free scanners.

Most important however is safe browsing. Whenever you install any freeware, watch each step like a hawk to find anything they're trying to sneak in, even in the license agreement, to deselect everything or Decline install of all but the actual program. Also don't torrent and if you do scan everything as it downloads with above scanners.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Hello,

IMO, Windows Defender itself is sufficient for Windows 10. Just make sure you keep its virus and spyware definitions up-to-date.

Regards.

Windows inbuilt Defender Antivirus is top of the notch antivirus. You don't require a third party antivirus now with Defender coming into picture. All top experts of Windows agree on this fact. This also gets regular and frequent updates on par with any other reputed antivirus.

So, just be worry free and no need to invest into a new third party antivirus.
Sincerely yours,

Hi,
Yes, it is recommended to run an Antivirus program no matter what. However Windows Defender had been getting better the past couple of years. Some people think it is fine to run it without a 3rd party antivirus just using Windows Defender instead. That really depends on your usage, if you are going to sites you probably should or your PC may come into contact with suspicious files I would definitely still use a 3rd party antivirus like Bullguard, Avira, Avast etc.

Hi,
Windows 10 has built-in Defender antivirus so one does not need another. You may install another antivirus but please read this opinion first:

Do I need antivirus for windows 10 ?

If you're looking for an impartial answer, you're not likely to find one in a community forum sponsored by Microsoft.

You're asking a 'what is your opinion' question, and everyone has their own opinion. People who have 'Microsoft' in their title have a predictable opinion. Only you can decide what is right for you.

I think you owe it to yourself to read the reviews of antivirus software that are regularly published by professional reviewers. Take advantage of the free trials. Then make the decision that feels right in your own eyes.

I use Windows Defender & Malwarebytes Premium.

Malwarebytes catches things Windows Defender misses.

See pictures---

Click pictures to make them bigger---

Do as you want.

But your computer will be safer if you use Malwarebytes in addition to Windows Defender.

Windows Defender does not catch everything.
