DNS server is not responding on Windows 10

Hello,

I have two issues.

1, DNS server is not responding.

I have issue when I try to connect to Ethernet or wifi it says No internet and got the yellow exclamation mark on it. When troubleshooting the network it says DNS server is not responding.

I have tried all the troubleshooting steps like flushdns, registerdns, etc. In short everything disabling antivirus, turning off windows firewall services. But, this didn't resolve the issue at all. I read other forums online and tried all their solutions but no luck.

This is not the first time I have come across. It has happened to several Windows10 machines in our company and the trousbleshoot steps have worked only once and rest of the times we had to reset the PC deleting all the apps and leaving files. This solution worked but this is not the good solution that resetting the PC and reinstall the apps again.

I want to know if Microsoft is aware of this issue and trying to fix it?

2, Windows stuck on WELCOME screen when logging in.

I had windows startup issues before on another machine. After login the windows was stuck on WELCOME screen and doesn't go further than that.

For this too again I tried all the troubleshoot issues but no luck. It booted good in safe mode but in normal mode. I did some troubleshoot it did let me sign in once in normal mode but then it couldn't connect to network at all neither opened any app. So, I had to revert those settings. Can't say exactly what settings where they becuase I played too many settings.

Then finally had to revert back all the settings to original. After trying it for 3 hours I gave up and had to reset the PC. Which came to normal mode later.

There are too many bugs in windows 10. Please provide solution to them.

hi Ramesh. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Volunteer Guardian Moderator here to help you.

I'll give you everything that works to fix Wifi so that at least something will work:

For Wifi won't connect after Version 1903:
https://windows101tricks.com/fix-wifi-keeps-dis...
https://www.techrepublic.com/article/wi-fi-and-...
https://pureinfotech.com/fix-wifi-problems-wind...

Enable IPv6 in the network adapter settings: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/90033-enabl...

Run the fixit from https://support.microsoft.com/help/929852 (Re-enable IPv6 on all nontunnel interfaces) and reboot.

Right click the network icon in System Tray at bottom right end of task bar to Troubleshoot Problems.

Try all of these steps: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10741/...
https://www.kapilarya.com/how-to-reset-network-...

Update your network adapter drivers from the PC maker's Support Downloads web page using the full model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

If you have the latest network driver then try on it's Driver tab also to Roll Back, or Uninstall and then restart PC to reinstall the driver. Try also all older drivers from Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick list working backwards.

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > WIfi > Manage Known Networks, highlight and remove the network having problems, restart PC to see if it shows up again.

Try plugging in by ethernet cable to the router to compare, then plug the ethernet cable into the modem (if separate) to see if this might be an issue with the router.

Try powering off modem, router and PC and then restarting in that order with 1 minute in between each. You may need to reset your router or even optimize it following these steps:
https://www.lifewire.com/resetting-a-home-netwo...
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/ultim...

You also are entitled to Support from your internet provider to get online on all devices. This is always included in the monthly bill. If your router is less than a year old they will also Support getting it connected and optimized.

Another option is you could replace the wireless adapter with an inexpensive USB nano adapter like this one: https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-wireless-network...

You can also add an extender. The best one I've found is $17 at Amazon, configures itself, and so good I'd never use any other: https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-Extender-Externa...

If this was caused by Windows Updates then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Installed Updates, then uninstall them from the link there, and hide with the Hide Updates tool downloaded from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

You can also use System Restore to get before the problem began, then check for Updates with the Hide Update tool and hide them: http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-t...

If this was caused by Version update then you can roll it back in Settings>Update & Security>Recovery and then hide it until it matures using the Hide Updates Tool downloaded from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the suggestions and options. But, unfortunately none of the options given by you worked. I have already tried them several times. Microsoft has really stuffed up windows 10. We had 6 x laptops where there DNS not responding issue and Windows startup issue didn't resolve with any of the troubleshoot options and it forced me to do the had reset of the laptop.

Microsoft has messed windows 10 rather making it better and secured. It has got whole lot **** bugs in it. This is very frustrating and driving me crazy with these ongoing issues. Now I spend hours of fixing these **** windows 10 issues.

I want to know if Microsoft is aware of these issues and trying to fix? Reading many online forums and blogs nothing gave this solution to this. The solution given would have worked for only 1 out 10 windows 10 users and others have left unresolved and online experts finally suggest to to do the hard reset. This is not how it works. I cannot hard reset all laptops now. This has now become my everyday job resetting computers due to DNS or Windows startup issues. Microsoft if you are listening to this then not happy with the service at all especially with Windows 10. You have made windows slower to work loading too many services during windows load up and chewing up too much memory on computers. Too many different types ads and unwanted aps open without any notification.
