DisplayLink Core Software

October 30, 2012

I cannot install Windows 8 because it says I have to uninstall DisplayLink Core Software. I have tried all day to uninstall and I cannot do it. Apparently there is an iPad Display Link but I cannot find it. When I do try to uninstall it says that the computer can't find those files either. I tried to download the upgrade from DisplayLink but the computer will not accept the download. I have a 64xbit Sony All-In-One.
There were 4 programs that needed to be uninstalled and there was no problem doing so, except this one.

Thank you in advance for your help.
Linda

Hi mammananny,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I would suggest you to remove all the external device and check.

I would also suggest you to uninstall any antivirus software and check.

1.      Are you using a DVD or an ISO image to upgrade?

2.      From which operating system are you trying to upgrade to windows 8?

Method 1:

I would suggest you to follow the instruction from the article below to completely uninstall the software which removes all the entries of the software without leaving any residue.

How to completely uninstall DisplayLink software

Method 2:

I would also suggest you to perform clean boot and check.

Place the computer in a clean boot state and then check if it helps. You can start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

To set the computer in clean boot, follow the steps from the link: How to perform a clean boot

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

NOTE: make sure you perform “Step 3” to reset the computer to start as usual.

Method 3:

I would also suggest you to refer the link and check.

Thank you so much.  I followed your instructions to the letter and it worked fine. I now have Windows 8 installed on my desktop. You saved me from having to totally reboot my computer to factory defaults. That was one recommendation from the Geek Squad, or I could pay them $150.00 to have them do it. I would still have had to re-install all of my computer software. I even began digging out all of my CD's and pass keys to do it.

Again, I very much appreciate your support.

Sincerely,

Mammananny
